One of the best things about summer is enjoying fresh produce from local farmer’s markets! If you have booked a South Lake Tahoe vacation rental, you don’t have to shop the local grocery stores if supporting local farmers is something you are passionate about. In fact, during the summer time, we have a few ways for you to shop local, all of which are within close proximity to most of our vacation rentals in South Lake Tahoe. The best part is they all happen on different days of the week, so if you don’t make it up by a certain day or time, you can still get your fresh produce. A majority of our local farmer’s markets also feature local crafts, vendors and yummy specialty foods ready to eat as you shop. Wondering where to shop during your Lake Tahoe getaway? Check out this guide broken down by neighborhood.
Lake Tahoe Flea Market
If your South Lake Tahoe vacation rental is located in Meyers, out by the Y, or Pioneer Trail, this is a great one to stop by. Happening every weekend through September, this has over 100 vendors. You can pick up fresh produce, food, crafts, specialty foods, used goods and more. Located right where Elks Club Dr meets U.S. 50, this has been going on for over 30 years.
American Legion South Lake Tahoe Certified Farmers Market
If your South Lake Tahoe vacation rental is located near Al Tahoe, Sierra Tract, Highland Woods, Tahoe Keys or really anywhere “in the middle of town”, be sure to stop by this one! This one is put on by The El Dorado County Certified Farmers’ Market Association. This essentially means that you are buying straight from the farmer, usually freshly picked within the last 24 hours. This is a great way to stock your vacation rentals in South Lake Tahoe while bypassing the long lines at the grocery stores. This one is every single Tuesday from 8am-1pm at the American Legion on Lake Tahoe Blvd. This one also runs through October.
Ski Run Farmers Market
This is another one that is conveniently located in town. It also happens to be a great way to kick off the weekend as a few blocks of Ski Run are shut down to accommodate live music, crafts, yummy food and local produce. You can also weave in and out of the local restaurants that usually join in on the fun. This one is on Fridays from 3pm-8pm. If your vacation rental in South Lake Tahoe is in either of the Bijou neighborhoods, you can easily walk. Although if you are staying at vacation rentals in South Lake Tahoe that are not in walking distance, there is plenty of street parking. Although arriving early is the best way to secure a convenient spot.
The Market Box Program
If you are booking South Lake Tahoe vacation rentals for an extended period of time, check out the Market Box program. It is all the fresh produce you would get at the market delivered straight to the door of your South Lake Tahoe vacation rental.
If you would like to buy and support local for your meat needs, head over to Overland Meat Co. They have a variety of high quality meats as well as a few other specialty grocery store items. This one is a local favorite.
