Pet Friendly Vacation Rentals-Fact vs. Fiction
When interviewing prospective homeowners for inclusion into our Lake Tahoe vacation rental program inevitably we are asked what are the top requests from inquiring guests are and our answer almost never changes. The four top requests are in this order:
1) Hot Tub
2) Pet Friendly
3) Pool Table
4) High Speed Internet
The typical reaction for 3 of the 4 is typically affirmative but the pet friendly request draws raised eyebrows and a look of astonishment then many times a feverish shaking of the head NO!!
After the initial shock has worn off we start by explaining that many of the highest quality guests we book travel with their pets and these same guests are so relieved to find a great “pet friendly” vacation rental at Lake Tahoe that they return again and again and tell all of their dog loving brethren about the rental as well. The chosen cabin becomes, in essence, that particular guests personal cabin at Lake Tahoe. Their “place at The Lake”
Pinnacle Lake Tahoe Getaways policy on pets is set by each homeowner but after reviewing the earlier points and describing the steps taken to protect their property via a pet deposit and a clear paragraph in the guest rental agreement stating that guests are responsible for their pet’s behavior and that a charge will occur of not followed we rarely have issues with our dog friendly guests.
If you are a homeowner on a vacation rental program consider making your home pet friendly. It will increase the number of nights booked per year thus increasing revenue and create a network of “Fido fans” that will make you a hero in the dog loving world!
Fact:
Guests who travel with their pets stay longer, will “dicker the price” less and repeat again and again
Fiction:
Guests who travel with their pets destroy the home they are staying in, leave “messes” and make the home smell like pets.
