If you are looking for vacation rentals in South Lake Tahoe, you likely may be researching nearby activities and day trips that are close by. Lake Tahoe may be the main attraction, but we are super lucky to be surrounded by a plethora of places that have no shortage of great things to do. If you are looking for something roughly within an hour away from your South Lake Tahoe vacation rental, these local spots are great and ones that we enjoy doing ourselves!
Genoa: This quant little town is just on the other side of the basin in Nevada. It is blink and you’ll miss it small, but it is absolutely gorgeous and it offers some pretty great spots. The Genoa Bar is Nevada’s oldest thirst parlor and it is a local favorite. Be forewarned, the drinks are not just pleasantly affordable, they are also quite strong. You could cab it from your vacation rental in South Lake Tahoe, however, that would be an expensive ride so plan accordingly. This stop is a must! The Pink House is also another cute spot that is not to miss! Phenomenal food, quaint atmosphere and a cute gift shop make for the perfect place to grab lunch. Genoa is cute just for walking around. You may feel like you are back in an old western or on a movie set! The best part is you can be back at your South Lake Tahoe vacation rental in 30 minutes, traffic permitting.
Hope Valley: This spot is known for the best photography location during the fall, but it is truly gorgeous all year around. Prepare a picnic, park and hit a trail for a gorgeous hike. This can be accessed conveniently from all of our South Lake Tahoe vacation rentals.
Carson City: We’ll admit that Carson City is usually a spot that locals go for grocery shopping and running errands. Costco, Trader Joes, Target and other major retailers are all conveniently located just at the bottom of the hill. Don’t label this place as a pit stop on your way from the airport to your vacation rental in South Lake Tahoe though! Carson City is the capital of Nevada and has some pretty great attractions.
Markleeville: if you couldn’t book vacation rentals in South Lake Tahoe that feature a hot tub, we have the next best thing. Head to Markleeville for a soak in nature’s hot tub: hot springs.
Truckee: Truckee may not boast a lake view, but do not be fooled-this darling town offers quite a bit more. From lots of outdoor recreation to fabulous dining and shopping spots, Truckee is a must when booking South Lake Tahoe vacation rentals.
Reno: Downtown Reno isn’t just a mini Las Vegas like experience. Sure you can do that if you want and hit up the various casinos, but there is a wonderful food and art scene that is blossoming. From Food Truck Fridays to craft cocktail bars to some fabulous art installations, Reno is a great day trip option. You can also shop before heading up the hill to your South Lake Tahoe vacation rental.
The other side of the lake: Tahoe City, Incline Village and Kings Beach all offer a different vantage point of the lake. So get out your camera and walk around. Char Pit in King’s Beach makes a great burger while Bite in Incline has a wonderful tapas menu. Stop by Sand Harbor on your way back to the South Shore for a gorgeous beach shot.
