Tahoe Area Ski Resorts
One reason that draws so many skiers and riders to the Lake Tahoe area is the sheer number of resorts accessible from the region. Within an hour and a half drive from the south shore there are 14 resorts that all offer something different. These are the big three on the south shore and all feature different aspects to keep you happy. If you like big resorts Heavenly Mountain Resort has more than enough terrain to keep you exploring for days. With 4800 acres in two states you will find a run you like. With breathtaking lake views and plenty of high speed lifts Heavenly is a great place to take some turns. For a smaller more family oriented mountain Sierra at Tahoe resort is great. There is still plenty of challenging terrain but there are numerous runs on the mountain perfect for beginners. Also if you like to ride the park and pipe Sierra at Tahoe has some of the best freestyle features of any resort in the world. If powder is what you want then take the drive out to Kirkwood, which receives the highest snowfall of any resort in the Tahoe region. With tons of really challenging terrain accessible from the lifts this is the place to see what you’re made of. If you want to try something else Homewood, Squaw Valley USA, Alpine Meadows, Mt. Rose, Diamond Peak, Sugarbowl, Soda Springs, Boreal, Tahoe Donner, Donner Ski Ranch, and Northstar at Tahoe are all less than an hour and a half drive from the south shore.
