When it comes to traveling with a large group during the summer time, there always feels like a long list of things to do and organize before you finally arrive at your destination. This is one of the perks of booking a South Lake Tahoe vacation rental for your getaway. While you still need to pack and get organized, it takes off the pressure of having to bring EVERYTHING. Instead, you show up, set your bags down and start enjoying your home away from home. Of course, life does tend to happen….even on vacation so check out our pro tips for ensuring you maximize your fun during this summer getaway.
Pack smart and don’t bring anything you don’t need to. The perk to booking a South Lake Tahoe vacation rental is that the homes usually have everything you need. If there are certain items you “have to have” and aren’t sure if the rental features them, call us a head of time. Need a fan for white noise? A Pack n Play for a tot? Outdoor gear like bikes or strollers? Ask us. When you know what is already there, it helps you eliminate extra baggage. As far as clothing goes, this is the mountains. So while sun may be in the forecast, the weather can change at any minute. Don’t bring your entire wardrobe but be sure to have extra layers in case the temperatures dip or we get a rainy, summer storm.
Stay healthy and bring your necessary meds and supplements. Likely, the vacation rental in South Lake Tahoe has a first aid kit and bandages for minor “owies”. If there is anything extra that you need that you take daily, bring it along. There is nothing worse than feeling like you are coming down with something while you should be out playing. Of course, Lake Tahoe is well stocked with Urgent Care Centers, doctor’s offices, pharmacy’s, natural health store and a hospital should something go awry.
Stay hydrated and bring your SPF. Lake Tahoe sits at a high elevation, so elevation sickness is a real possibility, as is a major sunburn. Not to mention, it is also a dryer climate. If you want to get out and play and not be cooped up in your vacation rental in South Lake Tahoe the whole time, apply the SPF liberally and often and drink your water. Fun fact: Lake Tahoe tap water is delicious so don’t worry about stocking up on bottled waters at the store.
One of the best things about booking a South Lake Tahoe vacation rental is that you are basically forcing yourself to take a time out from work and the pressing responsibilities of adult life. Sometimes, this means taking a few hours away from the kiddos as well. There are multiple kids camps and activities that allow you to drop off for the day that keep the kids occupied and exploring the outdoors. Need a sitter for a night out? Ask us for recommendations when you book your rental. We’d be happy to give you some options.
Have a little patience getting around town and finding parking. Lake Tahoe gets millions of visitors a year with summer being our busiest season. This also happens to be the time of year when we are able to do construction. Add in heavy traffic, less lanes, slower speeds and a lot of people on foot, bikes and scooters, and well…..you could find yourself getting irritated, especially when you get to your destination and parking is minimal. Our best advice? Go slow, be nice (we are all in this together after all) and leave early so you give yourself plenty of time to arrive and hopefully snag a great parking spot.
