While Lake Tahoe is mostly known for shades of blue, fall time is a local favorite for a few reasons. This is usually considered the “locals” shoulder season. Which means the town is quieter, the traffic has slowed and it feels like the locals get the town to themselves for a month or two. The weather is also an in between stage where we get sunny blue skies, hot days as well as the crisp fall days, rain, and like this years first day of fall-snow. Another favorite that isn’t to be missed? The changing colors of the foliage! No matter where your vacation rental in South Lake Tahoe is located, there is no shortage of places to watch the seasons change. Check out these spots!
.) Taylor Creek Visitor Center is conveniently located within 15 minutes of most South Lake Tahoe vacation rentals. It is a great leisurely activity that includes an easy trail walk with changing foliage and wildlife as well. The Kokanee salmon are spawning right around this time and you can watch their scales change to a bright red. Keep an eye out for bears though and also keep a respectful distance.
.) If you are up for taking a drive a little farther from your vacation rental in South Lake Tahoe, Hope Valley does not disappoint. In fact, the colors here can be so incredibly vibrant, it takes your breath away. Bright oranges, yellows and greens line the road. Just don’t forget your camera at the South Lake Tahoe vacation rental!
.) If you feel like going for a hike close to your vacation rental in South Lake Tahoe, head to Angora Meadow. Parking is minimal but you are greeted by bright yellow aspen grove and can hike to Angora Lakes.
.) Rabe Meadow is another great option, especially if your South Lake Tahoe vacation rental is located on the Nevada side. There is a small parking lot with a trail that takes you through a meadow filled with a variety of changing foliage all the way down to the beach.
