Good Sunday evening everyone,
I hope all of you enjoyed the weekend. A shortwave trough was moving through California and Nevada today, which brought extensive cloud cover over Nevada as well as the breezy conditions to Tahoe. Conditions will remain similar to today for the first half of the week, as we will see in the forecast.
Switching to the forecast and focusing on the first half of the week, on Monday the shortwave trough will continue to move out of the region, as a shortwave ridge builds off the coast. The ridge will propagate over the west coast on Tuesday. Even though a ridge will be present over California, skies will likely be cloudy, as a fair amount of upper and mid level moisture is anticipated to move over California (no precipitation is expected, however). The ridge will likely move out of California and Nevada by Wednesday, as a shortwave trough moves into northern California. The shortwave trough will likely drop temperatures in the Tahoe and Reno areas (temperatures may be in the upper 40’s and upper 50’s for Tahoe and Reno, respectively), and may also bring precipitation to the Reno and Tahoe areas.
Focusing on the second half of the week, northwesterly flow may develop over California on Thursday as the shortwave trough broadens. Temperatures for Tahoe and Reno may remain suppressed and slightly colder than Wednesday. The northwesterly flow may increase in strength on Friday, as the trough east of California and Nevada amplifies. Temperatures may begin to increase for Sacramento, Reno, and Tahoe. The northwesterly flow over California may weaken on Saturday. Temperatures may continue to increase across the region.
That about wraps up this week’s update. In summary, conditions will likely remain similar to what was observed today through Tuesday (with slightly weaker surface winds for Tahoe). Temperatures may drop for Reno and Tahoe on Wednesday as a shortwave trough moves into northern California (Sacramento may not see a drastic change in temperature). Along with the decrease in temperatures, the trough may also bring precipitation to the Tahoe and Reno areas. Temperatures for Tahoe and Reno may remain suppressed on Thursday, with highs reaching into the mid 40’s and mid 50’s, respectively. Temperatures may slowly increase across the region on Friday and Saturday. As always, enjoy the weather!
Sincerely,
A person who doesn’t have to dress up for Halloween to look like an insane person
