It has been a rather cloudy day for California, and an especially cloudy day for Nevada. The cloud cover and wet weather has been caused by a shortwave trough moving through California. The trough brought precipitation to the two states yesterday, and continues to bring showers to parts of California and Nevada today. The trough will continue to linger over the west coast for a couple more days, as we will see in the forecast.
Switching to the forecast and focusing on the first half of the week,on Monday the trough will continue to move through our region. Showers will likely persist over eastern Nevada, but not over the Reno, Tahoe, and Sacramento areas. On Tuesday, the trough will continue to linger over California, as it begins to transition into a closed low. The closed low will likely begin to move out of California by Wednesday.
Focusing on the second half of the week, zonal flow will likely develop over California on Thursday. Temperatures will likely begin to increase by Thursday. On Friday, a ridge may begin to build off the west coast. The ridge may weaken on Saturday as it propagates eastward.
That about wraps up this week’s update. In summary, a trough will slowly move through California and Nevada through the first half of the week. No showers are currently expected over Tahoe, Reno, or Sacramento as the trough moves out of the region. Temperatures will likely remain suppressed until Wednesday or Thursday, at which point temperatures will slowly begin to increase. By the end of the week, temperatures may be in the lower 60’s for Tahoe, the lower 70’s for Reno, and the mid-lower 80’s for Sacramento. As always, enjoy the weather!
Sincerely,
Chris Camacho
