Snow made an appearance on Mt Rose last night and it was a very real reminder that fall weather is approaching and doing so quite fast. This time of year, known as local’s summer, is usually known for being quieter and combining the best of all seasons. If you have a South Lake Tahoe vacation rental booked during this time and had visions of rain and clouds during this time of year in South Lake Tahoe, think again, you are in for a treat. Here are a few of the local favorite activities to check out over the course of the next couple months.
Check out the changing colors
South Lake Tahoe may not seem like a spot to check out the fall foliage, but trust us when we say, it is quite vibrant. Whether your hit a local trail or make the trek to Hope Valley, there are endless opportunities to see all the different autumn shades Lake Tahoe yields. In fact, no matter where your South Lake Tahoe vacation rental is located, wherever you go will be worth it!
Do the local Fall Festivals
Every year we have some local fall events such as Oktober Fest, the Fall Fish Fest, Sample The Sierra and more. Oktober Fest takes place at Camp Richardson and allows you to shop with local vendors, imbibe in local beers and ciders, enjoy live music and more. Fall Fish Fest is just a little further down the street and you get to see changing leaves, the Kokanee salmon run and if you are lucky, a bear or two. Of course, don’t crowd them and be sure to give them their space. Sample The Sierra is located at Bijou Community Park and is a great way to try all the different flavors of the Sierra Nevada. If you have booked a vacation rental in South Lake Tahoe in the middle of town, getting to and from these events will be easy, but prepare for parking and traffic.
Go Play Outside
The weather is still nice during the day so while mornings and evenings may be chilly, you still have plenty of options to enjoy such as a hike, mountain biking trip, walk, trip to the beach (just maybe not with swimwear) or take the gondola up to the viewing deck at Heavenly. Some of these activities you can do right outside the door of your South Lake Tahoe vacation rental while some may require you to drive a bit.
Go on a wine tasting or beer tour
There are several breweries and restaurants that offer great wine and beer tasting options. From live music to outdoor fire pits to lawn games to trivia to food trucks, if you enjoy beer and wine, our little mountain town has quite the scene. Luckily, whether you booked a vacation rental in South Lake Tahoe near the village or down by The Y, you have plenty of places to check out. Just make sure you choose a safe option for getting home.
